Elder Law

Families will engage with an Eldercare Attorney who can provide comprehensive estate planning services.  They also specialize in navigating the Medicare and Medicaid landscape, which is very complicated. As a Daily Money Manager (DMM), I work with eldercare attorneys in providing assistance to families who need legal advice. This could include gathering documents for the Medicaid application, cataloguing of hard assets, providing assistance to your attorney for asset restructuring or to convey facility financial requirements should your loved one need a LTC facility. A DMM could also act as a witness to document signing or facilitate document signing should distance be an issue for original signatures.  In some cases, DMM's will provide trustee services to families who prefer to have a disinterested party serve in that capacity.

Elder Law attorneys also become part of the team to help individuals and their families. An elder law attorney, in some cases, can be viewed as a general contractor who can refer their clients to other professionals.  A Daily Money Manager can be engaged to help facilitate their clients' daily needs and to enhance their quality of life. Similarly, a Daily Money Manager may act as the general contractor and refer their clients to an elder law attorney to deal with the legal aspects of providing care. We, as care professionals, all play a role to ensure that nothing falls through the cracks and our clients are protected. An elder law attorney and a Daily Money Manager are just two pieces of the "care team" puzzle.
